Mount St Helens Mount St Helens Impact
The impact from the Mount St. Helens eruption left 57 people dead and the estimated cost of the eruption ranged from US$2–3 billion. The ash from the eruption covered over 11 states grounding all flights in the area. It also destroyed 200 houses, 27 bridges, 24 km of railways and 298 km of highway. As well as that, it uprooted and destroyed thousands of trees in the 250km² north of the volcano. It also killed all the wildlife in its 25km blast zone. 250 km of a river was covered by ash and this led to the death of all the salmon and trout in the waters as the ash increased the water temperature which in turn killed the fish.
